Important Guidelines

  • In real interview one will never get much time to express, so try to visualize and then write succinctly.  Do not consider it an essay
  • Raise counter questions when reviewing others. This will broaden the dimensions as the same will happen in interview.
  • Counter questions will help in better expression as well as expose to various aspects one may have missed while writing. It will lead to better understanding of the issue.

The issue for discussion today is the following:

A series of shameful incidents took place in Bengaluru on new year’s eve. Even after 70 years of independence, women in India aren’t secure and even more alarming is the pervasiveness of such occurrences. We blame societal attitude, indifferent policing and insecure urban spaces for such incidents. But do these factors portray a complete picture of what is wrong with us?

What are your views on this issue? Can you think beyond popular narratives and analyse it at your own? Why do we behave like this? What do people get in ogling, molesting and harassing women? Why women aren’t safe in our cities? Why can’t we ensure a healthy and safe environment to our mothers and sisters?

Special note for the lady aspirants: Gender prejudice and stereotyping are true not only in the case of females but males also. There have been instances wherein sweeping assumptions have been made about males too. Being the aggrieved gender in this case, the tendency to portray all men in a negative sense may however backfire. Please have an unbiased understanding of the issue and balance your views properly. Emotional intelligence is the trademark quality of a civil servant and we all must recognize that.
