  • Targets 5,000 MW of floating solar capacity during FY 2026–27 to FY 2030–31
  • Projects will have co-located ESS with minimum 2-hour storage capacity, totalling 10,000 MWh

  • Provides Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of ₹1 crore/MW after successful commissioning. 
  • Up to ₹50 lakh/project is available for feasibility studies, including bathymetry, hydrography and environmental studies

Why Floating Solar?

FSPV uses water surfaces of reservoirs and industrial ponds, reducing competition for scarce land. Water-based deployment can also help reduce evaporation, while ESS improves grid reliability by storing electricity for later use.

Cholera remains a significant public-health threat, particularly in communities lacking safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene facilities. Recent discussions have highlighted that despite being preventable and treatable, cholera continues to cause deaths, especially during humanitarian crises, floods and other disruptions to water systems. 

What is Cholera?

  • An acute diarrhoeal infection caused mainly by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae
  • Transmission occurs predominantly through contaminated food or water, making it closely linked to inadequate WASH infrastructure. 
  • The bacterium produces cholera toxin, causing massive secretion of water and electrolytes into the intestine. 
  • Severe cases can result in profuse watery diarrhoea, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and death within hours if untreated. 

Prevention & Treatment

  • Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) is central to treatment of dehydration; severe cases may require intravenous fluids and antibiotics
  • Prevention depends primarily on safe water, sanitation, hygiene, food safety and surveillance
  • Oral cholera vaccines (OCVs) can support outbreak control but do not substitute for long-term WASH improvements.

  • Specially formulated to remain usable at very low temperatures, where conventional diesel may develop wax crystals and lose flowability. 
  • Designed with a significantly lower Cloud Point and Pour Point, enabling operation in extreme cold. 
  • Cloud Point: Temperature at which wax crystals first become visible in diesel. 
  • Pour Point: Lowest temperature at which the fuel can still flow under specified conditions. 
  • Useful for military vehicles, heavy machinery and civilian transport in high-altitude areas.

Magellanic Bridge: A Tidal Link Between Two Dwarf Galaxies

Researchers led by the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) identified a rare symbiotic star system in the Magellanic Bridge using X-ray observations from eROSITA. The discovery provides insights into how interactions between galaxies influence stellar evolution. 

What is the Magellanic Bridge?

  • A stream of gas and stars connecting the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC)
  • Both are dwarf satellite galaxies of the Milky Way
  • The Bridge was formed largely through tidal interactions, particularly during a close encounter between the LMC and SMC around 200–300 million years ago
  • It contains predominantly gas, along with a smaller population of young stars formed within it. 

Recent Astronomical Discovery

The newly identified system, eRASSU J043115.8−711730, is a symbiotic accreting system involving a white dwarf and a red giant. Material transferred from the red giant is accreted by the white dwarf, producing strong X-ray emission. It is the first confirmed symbiotic system discovered in the Magellanic Bridge

Estonia has digital identity, Brazil has Pix, Singapore has Singpass, and Europe has open banking, but none have integrated all three at India’s scale. The next frontier is intelligence, i.e., making Artificial Intelligence (AI) affordable, accessible, and ubiquitous as a digital public good. By applying the DPI playbook—open standards, low-cost access, and massive scale—India can commoditise AI, transforming it from a costly, closed technology into a public utility that powers governance, economy, and society.

 

India’s DPI Success: The Blueprint for AI

The Three Pillars

  • Identity (Aadhaar): Enrolled 1.4 billion people; turned identity verification from an expensive paper process into a low-cost API call.
  • Payments (UPI): Made digital payments effectively free; processes ~20 billion transactions monthly at near-zero cost.
  • Data (DEPA/Account Aggregator): Enabled secure, consent-based data sharing across sectors.
