The Integrated Fertilizer Management System (iFMS) has entered a new phase of data-driven fertilizer management, with greater integration of farmer, land and crop data to improve transparency, fertilizer availability and supply-chain monitoring.

About iFMS

  • A national digital platform for fertilizer management in India.
  • Developed and technically supported by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for the Department of Fertilizers, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.
  • Tracks the fertilizer ecosystem from production and imports to movement, stocks, retail sales and subsidy processing.

Rove Beetles: New Insect Discoveries from the Eastern Himalayas

An Indo-German research team documented 15 species of rove beetles new to science from the waterfalls and forests of Arunachal Pradesh. The newly discovered species belong to the genus Stenus, taking the number of Stenus species recorded from Arunachal Pradesh to 103. The findings also included 21 species newly recorded for India and 44 new records for Arunachal Pradesh.

About Rove Beetles

  • Belong to the family Staphylinidae, one of the largest families of beetles.
  • Typically elongated and fast-moving, with shortened wing covers (elytra) exposing flexible abdominal segments.
  • Found mainly in moist habitats such as leaf litter, decaying wood, stream margins, swamps and wetlands.
  • Many species are predators, feeding on small insects and helping regulate pest populations.
  • Some can raise their abdomen in a scorpion-like defensive posture, but they do not possess a true sting.
  • The genus Stenus is among the largest genera of animals and includes species adapted to damp environments.

What are Hanging Glaciers?

  • They often form when a major valley glacier retreats and thins, leaving tributary glaciers at a much higher elevation.
