AIR Debate – China Blocks India’s move on Masood Azhar at the United Nations

Recently China blocked Pathankot terror attack master mind Masood to be listed as international terrorist at the United Nations. This comes at a time when PM Modi is emphasising the world community to fight against terrorists regardless of their intent. This action at United Nations against Masood Azhar is condemnable and incomprehensible to the India’s interest.

This incident happened when the world leaders including china were discussing how to prevent terrorists from access to nuclear materials and other issues related to terrorism at the world nuclear security summit. This incident of blocking the terror attack master mind from designating as a terrorist shows the double standards adopted by developed countries when it comes to dealing with terror.

China’s action at UN is not something new, it had followed the same path even while designating Mumbai terror attack master mind as terrorist at the UN. The reason China gives to this is lack of evidence!

The blocking action against Masood needs to be viewed in proximity of Pakistan with China. Pakistan and China are having deep ties that is manifested in Economic, political and technological domains.  With recent Pakistan China economic corridor, the economic relation is slated to reach new heights.

Despite enormous trade that exists between India and china, we need to understand the bitter truth that India is china’s rival when it comes dealing with Pakistan. China really doesn’t want India to influence things in south Asia or in the global forums. The synergy/Intention that exists between Pakistan and china in military is also something which should be taken with prudence. (Pak has handed over a part of Pok (Pakistan occupied Kashmir) to china near siachen area)

All these actions weaken the commitment to globally fight Terrorism. The world needs to be more cautious and extremely responsible when it comes to dealing terrorists. There needs to be more consensuses and confidence building measures on critical issues related to China, Pakistan and India. Global forum should strongly desist or condemn any inaction related to terror action and need to think beyond the borders of the impact of terrorism.
