Hi Ankur, please send me Vaid sir and brain tree material. Thanks in advance!
Thank you IASbaba ,Ankur for taking this initiative & all others contributing to it.
I’m appearing in 2016. I’ve read diff strategies for anthro, skimmed previous papers, read some basic NCERT, watched a couple of videos and I’m read the repository here. I feel I can take this optional. But only problem, haven’t touched Biology since 10th std and I’m pursuing Electrical Engineering.
Please guide me. I’m really confused.
Thanks in advance!! 🙂
No issues. Lots of engineers with varied specialization are taking up anthro. as optional. Don’t worry, biology isn’t that hard.
Thanks a lot this initiative

Hi I am apptempting cse 2016 with anthropology. Currently started with Physical anthropology and have Braintree, vaid sir notes and P nath. Is it enough to go through vaid sir notes and enrich with where ever required from P Nath.? Or we are required to go in detail as in brain tree notes. Please guide.

Thank you
HI Ankur . I have taken Anthro as an optional . Is coaching really necessary for this subject ? and can u how can i access the repository material ?
Topics are pretty diverse. Coaching is not really necessary, though then it depends from person to person. Go through the syllabus and previous year ques., you can easily make a decision then.
Here is the link to repository

hi Ankur!

hey ankur ,just need to ask how to memorise the fossil men and other ratta maar topics .m struggling hard.
They indeed seem to be toughest part due to the amount of rattafication required.
Try:
For the long words, break and cram
E.x. Austra-lo-pi-the-cines
For Characteristics please draw the diagram, mark the features on itself, then try to cram, hope pictographic memory would make retention easier.
hey dear !!! kindly help me by providing a good source for diagrams.i know m being too demanding but iasbaba is my only resort .plz help …
see Post 6, I’ve tagged you in a comment.
HEY Ankur !!
Can we plz get a decent pdf of vaid sir’s material ,the watermark is causing big problem ,unable to decipher ,any solution ???
buy the hard copy. 😛
u’ll still face the same issue but to a lesser extent. 🙁
Hi Ankur, m in deep trouble. got a ‘Gnyanodaya ‘ at 2:30 am in the night today from a friend that its answer writting that matters the most. i ve decent score in Prelims but havent written single answer. My stratergy for Anthro was – i made notes from Braintree material and m studying ONLY that. Right now, feeling nervous and little panicky as i havent referred ‘Standard Text books’ nor have i written answers..
Plz help.
Both standard books and material are for ready reference. Study as per the syllabus and previous year ques. Start writing 2-3 ques. daily and keep revising, it will indeed boost ur confidence.
As you’ve already gone through the syllabus, you’ll find it easy to post your answers here.
i will definately start practicing answers here . the quality may not be of high standard but ,better late than never. Thanks Ankur for the guidance and looking forward for ur suggestions on my answers
ankur!
Do you have ember and ember e book?
I don’t have this book, if you have studied ember and ember.Kindly let me know about that book content, whether i should by this?
i am asking this because when i searched on amazon the price for this book is 12976 rs.
So i thought to discuss with u
no. have heard a lot about that book but have neither seen nor read it. neither i have the ebook. I have Encyclopedia of Medical Anthropology – C. Ember, M. Ember ebook but don’t find it useful.
ok ankur!
thanks a lot…
Ankur add this to important articles list. its useful for growth studies chapter in paper 1

Hi ankur, Vaid sir’s notes are there in repository kya
Bhaiya.. Im new to Optional Anthropology.. 2016 will be my 1st attempt… That repository material will be sufficient or after completion of repository.. what i can go for?
Right now im having Brain tree material.. pls guide me..
u have a lot of time…along with the repository use the internet extensively. but try to stick to syllabus and previous year ques.
hi ankur, i ve heard that diagrams carry a lot of weightage. Is there any material where we can find PENCIL SKETCHES of fossil skeletal remains ? internet has pictures or digital images which are too difficult to draw.
p nath, b m das
hey Ankur…can u please suggest how to start for anthropology?…for 2016…and any idea about how is Vaid’s classes for the same?
No need of classes. They will teach whatever in the book thats it.my opinion prepare yourself Keep the syllabus copy(u can find mind maps in this site download or write it),study it thoroughly twice or thrice divide into suitable parts and start reading accordingly. Simultaneously prepare answer writing for that topics. In classes they will teach same topics and eats time, choice is yours I just sad my opinion only
I have been to vaid’s. he charged 38,000/- and completed the course within 45 days. He is no teacher instead you can call him arm-chair critic. he will say you the same things as it is written in his books and notes. better go to market and purchase them. no need to waste time and energy there. He might sound genuine but don’t get into the trap. I suggest you to self study and get variety of notes for deeper knowledge.
thanks for the suggestion arun..I was planning vaid but getting a lot of negative reviews about him…can i start with Karthik’s material?…one of my friends suggested that…
Bro i have experienced the same..he didnt even teach for 45 hours..only thing he know is to chew paan and criticize other teachers.
Mr Vaid is worthless.. he has been teaching for long but still fails to understand the UPSC question pattern… he completes the Anthro Paper 2 only 4 to 5 days carelessly… he starts from the Social anthro section such Marriage, Family.. in which he is little bit better
are braintree notes there in the repositry link? how long can anthropology take ,to cover its syllabus if one has to start from scratch ?
Briantree notes not available in repository.
variable~4 months

TLP2015
thanks , have u finished optional?
No, writing mains in 2016, have started late, just last week
all the best
when ever you get time plz share Current affairs strategy ,source for prelims ,which u use to crack exam.
thanks
Jay32..plz send d link fr anthro
i banked on ncerts and current affairs (i used Visions monthly magazine, since it quite comprehensively covered the syllabus )..and go thru basic reference books for each subject ….that will give you the confidence of completing syllabus..and for the last 3 months before pre attempt test papers for practice…i used civils daily…that helped me score good in pre
thanks for your rply, just one more thing did you follow the hindu daily or any other source u used for current affairs
if you could follow the Hindu daily that will be really helpful for your pre and mains both, otherwise in the last two months you will have to go thru some current affairs magazine(i went with Vision IAS monthly magazine, and i did it from Sept 2015-July 2016…that may be helpful, but its like shortcut, and won’t retain till your mains..as it was more like mugging up)…
thank you 🙂
Send me d link…for anthro
