IAS BABA, please guide us for Mathematics optional…
Manpreet Kaur Mankoo
September 4, 2015
+1
@IASbaba
We know the team is doing a lot already for all of us!!
Not TLP for Math (I personally feel it is not required; Math is just practice, practice and practice), but if we could at least get expert advise on it. Like what should be an ideal answer writing in Math? Idea about scaling, if at all there is any? Any other important tips, strategies that we are ignorant about?
And maybe, if possible, a proper direction to our Math Optionals by providing a Schedule for it for us to follow. 😛 (It’s ok if not feasible)
P.S.
I have referred few toppers’ advices available on net, but to some extent, not satisfied!! 😐
Have the requisite books with me. (Assuming it for others as well as the internet is full with its information)
Can’t promise…will try our best..whenever we find anything useful for all of you, we never keep it for ourselves 🙂
Manpreet Kaur Mankoo
September 4, 2015

September 5, 2015
I am also preparing for maths. If you want some basic information I can try to help.
Manpreet Kaur Mankoo
September 5, 2015
Hey thanks Abhijit!! 🙂 Any idea about scaling?
Also, I think by the time if and when Baba comes out with anything on this, we can along with others form a detailed Maths Time-Table to complete the syllabus well before time. What say?
Abhijit
September 5, 2015
See nobody knows for sure. But by now what I have gathered is this:
Because in a maths question you can score full marks whereas it is not the case with other subjects, so they do scale down your marks. Otherwise people will start scoring above 450 in maths and other subjects won’t stand a chance. But be assured that if one does well in maths he will not lose out despite scaling.
I am not very sure about the time table, but of you take the initiative, I shall be of whatever help I can.
Abhijit
September 6, 2015
How much of the maths syllabus have u finished?
Manpreet Kaur Mankoo
September 6, 2015
Sigh!! Though I had practised couple of topics before, have already forgotten them! You can say not even one chapter! Was completely focussed on clearing Prelims! Striving to cover 6 Chapters by first week of October. And yeah, I am well-acquainted with almost all the chapters of the syllabus as I had them in my engg. course! (I am not over confident, rather it is stressing me out! 🙁 )
What about you?
Abhijit
September 6, 2015
I am not going to make it this year to the mains. Very strange exam.
Last year mains ki prep nahi thi to prelims nikal gaya. Is saal mains ki prep hai to prelims latak jayega.
I sort of have an idea of around 9-10 topics, but not of the level one needs for mains.
Manpreet Kaur Mankoo
September 8, 2015
Why do you think so! Always be hopeful!! You never know!! 🙂 Even if you don’t make it, it adds to your experience which only helps you further! 🙂

I am in a similar situation. I attended pathak sir’s classes but in the business of studying the daily current affairs and unending static part, psychology has remained sidelined for a long time now. I seriously need a good guidance how to go about the subject in a way that I can follow on regular basis…#IASbaba please help!

December 25, 2015
I’m starting from 1st Jan with Pub Ad now .. dropping psychology since don’t know how to approach it .. and with 28 chapters .. baap re .. paper 2 of pub ad is purely current affairs .. so i’m relying on that .. and hoping against hope that upsc scraps optional altogether when baswan committee gives its reports
Upasana Singh
December 26, 2015
Huge syllabus, unsure what books to follow and other doubts in psychology…I am equally afraid to pick up any other subject as a whole new guidance is required for that and huge sums of money to join coaching which I am not going for anyways…..seriously one of the worse situations to be in rt now… so are u taking coaching Jan on fro pub adm?
TargetOneThing
December 26, 2015
I spent 2,00,000 on coaching in 2014 … and it completed in May 2015 , thereby wasting one year and could not even attempt this years prelims just coz of paucity of time and lack of preparation .. so now no coaching for anything .. I’ll be doing self study .. Many have cracked with pub ad without any coaching .. i’ll cover the syllabus by aug .. then join Lukmaan Test series in September where Sir will give valuable inputs on how to write answers or will consult with Pavan Sir by joining his test series ….but no classes now .. you can easily prepare by yourself with the books for that … no point wasting time sitting in a class of 200-300 students .

Reading basics from IGNOU’s study material and watching topic-wise lectures on Youtube. Will pick up standard books after prelims just for accumulating certain management thoughts and quotes, I don’t think much deep-diving into the subject matter is required. Looking for some decent study groups in the meanwhile to brainstorm further.

Otherwise people will start scoring above 450 in maths and other subjects won’t stand a chance. But be assured that if one does well in maths he will not lose out despite scaling.
I am not very sure about the time table, but of you take the initiative, I shall be of whatever help I can.
How much of the maths syllabus have u finished?
I am not going to make it this year to the mains. Very strange exam.
Last year mains ki prep nahi thi to prelims nikal gaya. Is saal mains ki prep hai to prelims latak jayega.
I sort of have an idea of around 9-10 topics, but not of the level one needs for mains.
Why do you think so! Always be hopeful!! You never know!! 🙂 Even if you don’t make it, it adds to your experience which only helps you further! 🙂
Thanks. Lets see what happens.
Hey, can you please share the booklist you have for the Maths optional?

guruji ..psychology
exactly .. how you approaching psycho ? i attended pathak sirs classes , but even after that , feels as if i know nothing . Now will start afresh from 1st November
I am in a similar situation. I attended pathak sir’s classes but in the business of studying the daily current affairs and unending static part, psychology has remained sidelined for a long time now. I seriously need a good guidance how to go about the subject in a way that I can follow on regular basis…#IASbaba please help!
I spent 2,00,000 on coaching in 2014 … and it completed in May 2015 , thereby wasting one year and could not even attempt this years prelims just coz of paucity of time and lack of preparation .. so now no coaching for anything .. I’ll be doing self study .. Many have cracked with pub ad without any coaching .. i’ll cover the syllabus by aug .. then join Lukmaan Test series in September where Sir will give valuable inputs on how to write answers or will consult with Pavan Sir by joining his test series ….but no classes now .. you can easily prepare by yourself with the books for that … no point wasting time sitting in a class of 200-300 students .
how you guys preparing psychology? any clues?

Hi anyone from preparing with management as an optional ? Guys how are you strategizing your preparation. any help would be appreciated
Yes.. if you are still in for mgt ping me..
