Question 26 of 30
26. Question
A trader sells 85 m of cloth for Rs. 9520 at the profit of Rs. 15/m of cloth. What is the cost price of 1 m of cloth?
Correct
Solution (c)
Rs. 97
Explanation: Cost Price = Selling price – Profit
SP of 1m of cloth = 9520/85 = Rs. 112
CP of 1m of cloth = SP of 1m of cloth – profit on 1m of cloth = Rs. 112 – Rs. 15 = Rs. 97
Incorrect
Solution (c)
Rs. 97
Explanation: Cost Price = Selling price – Profit
SP of 1m of cloth = 9520/85 = Rs. 112
CP of 1m of cloth = SP of 1m of cloth – profit on 1m of cloth = Rs. 112 – Rs. 15 = Rs. 97

Question 27 of 30
27. Question
A person bought a car and sold it for Rs. 4,20,000. If he incurred a loss of 20%, then how much did he spend to buy the car?
Correct
Solution (a)
Let Cost Price be Rs. x
Selling Price of car = Rs 4,20,000
Loss percent = 20%
∴ 80% of x = 420000
Or x = 420000 × (100/80) Or x = Rs. 5,25,000
Incorrect
Solution (a)
Let Cost Price be Rs. x
Selling Price of car = Rs 4,20,000
Loss percent = 20%
∴ 80% of x = 420000
Or x = 420000 × (100/80) Or x = Rs. 5,25,000

Question 28 of 30
28. Question
Cost price of 12 guavas is equal to the selling price of 9 guavas and the discount on 10 guavas is equal to the profit on 5 guavas. What is the percentage point difference between the profit percentage and discount percentage?
Correct
Solution (b)
Ratio of selling price and Cost Price,
SP:CP = 12:9 =4:3
Profit of 3 guavas = Re 1 (Let CP = Re 1) Profit = 1/3 = 33.33%
and, Discount = 11.11%
Since, CP : SP : MP = 3:4:4.5
Profit doubles that of discount.
So, % point discount = 33.33%-11.11% = 22.22% point.
Incorrect
Solution (b)
Ratio of selling price and Cost Price,
SP:CP = 12:9 =4:3

Question 29 of 30
29. Question
Amrutha and Harshitha invested some amount of money in the ratio of 3 : 5 for the same period in the business. They decided that at the end of the year 20% profit was to be given to a charity as a donation. Out of the remaining, 75% was to be reinvested and the rest of the profit was to be divided as interest on their capitals. If the difference in their share is Rs. 1500. Find the total profit?
Correct
Solution (d)
Let the total profit = 100
Amount left after donation = 80
Out of which 75% is re invested , ( 75/100 * 80) = 60
Amount left after reinvestment = 20
Now, 5y/8 – 3y/8 = 1500 where y is the amount left after reinvestment
⇒ 2x/8 = 1500 ⇒ x = 6000
∴ total profit = 6000 x 5 = 24000 ( Since , 20% of the money = 6000, 100 % of the money is 5 times the money left)
Incorrect
Solution (d)

Question 30 of 30
30. Question
Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow each passage. Your answer to these questions should be based on passage only.
It is a curious and prevalent opinion that literature, like all art, is a mere play of imagination, pleasing enough, like a new novel, but without any serious or practical importance. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Literature preserves the ideals of a people; and ideals–love, faith, duty, friendship, freedom, reverence–are the part of human life most worthy of preservation. The Greeks were a marvelous people; yet of all their mighty works we cherish only a few ideals,–ideals of beauty in perishable stone, and ideals of truth in imperishable prose and poetry. It was simply the ideals of the Greeks and Hebrews and Romans, preserved in their literature, which made them what they were, and which determined their value to future generations. Our democracy, the boast of all English-speaking nations, is a dream; not the doubtful and sometimes disheartening spectacle presented in our legislative halls, but the lovely and immortal ideal of a free and equal manhood, preserved as a most precious heritage in every great literature from the Greeks to the Anglo-Saxons. All our arts, our sciences, even our inventions are founded squarely upon ideals; for under every invention is still the dream of Beowulf, that man may overcome the forces of nature; and the foundation of all our sciences and discoveries is the immortal dream that men “shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
In a word, our whole civilization, our freedom, our progress, our homes, our religion, rest solidly upon ideals for their foundation. Nothing but an ideal ever endures upon earth. It is therefore impossible to overestimate the practical importance of literature, which preserves these ideals from fathers to sons, while men, cities, governments, civilizations, vanish from the face of the earth. It is only when we remember this that we appreciate the action of the devout Mussulman, who picks up and carefully preserves every scrap of paper on which words are written, because the scrap may perchance contain the name of Allah, and the ideal is too enormously important to be neglected or lost.
We are now ready, if not to define, at least to understand a little more clearly the object of our present study. Literature is the expression of life in words of truth and beauty; it is the written record of man’s spirit, of his thoughts, emotions, aspirations; it is the history, and the only history, of the human soul. It is characterized by its artistic, its suggestive, its permanent qualities. Its two tests are its universal interest and its personal style. Its object, aside from the delight it gives us, is to know man, that is, the soul of man rather than his actions; and since it preserves to the race the ideals upon which all our civilization is founded, it is one of the most important and delightful subjects that can occupy the human mind.
Which among the following can be correctly inferred from the passage?
Correct
Solution (c)
Option a is ruled out as the meaning is twisted from what is written in the line 4 of passage.
Option b is ruled out because as the second line of the first paragraph states that “Nothing could be farther from the truth”.
Option c is the correct choice because 2nd line of the first paragraph states that: Literature preserves the ideals of a people; and ideals–love, faith, duty, friendship, freedom, reverence are the part of human life most worthy of preservation.
Incorrect
