Question 2 of 5
2. Question
If 16 men can dig a trench 150 m long, 3 m wide and 4 m deep in 4 days of 15 hours each, in how many days of 8 hours each will 15 men dig trench 100 m long, 6 m wide and 3 m deep?
Correct
Q.2) Solution (b)
Volume of trench dug before= 150 × 3 × 4 = 1800 and new volume= 100 × 6 × 3 = 1800. As both are same, it is not going to make any difference.
So, new days = 4 × (16/15) × (15/8) = 8 days
Incorrect

Question 3 of 5
3. Question
A watch gains 5 seconds in 3 minutes and was set right at 8 AM. What time will it show at 5PM on the same day?
Correct
Q.3) Solution (b)
A correct clock would have completed 9 hours by 5 pm. But the faster clock actually covers 100 seconds extra in one hour.
So, it will cover 9 x 100 = 900/60 = 15 minutes extra.
Therefore, when the correct clock would show 5 pm, the faster clock will show 15 minutes extra i.e. 5 pm 15 min.
Incorrect

Question 4 of 5
4. Question
A boat takes 90 min less to travel 36 miles downstream than to travel the same distance upstream, If the speed of the boat in still water is 10mph, the speed of the stream is
Correct
Q.4) Solution (a)
Let the speed of the stream X mph. Then,
Speed downstream = (10+X) mph
Speed upstream = (10-X) mph
Therefore, [36/(10-X)] – [36/(10+X)] = 90/60
X2 + 48X – 100 = 0
(X+50) (X-2) = 0
X = 2 mph
Incorrect
Q.4) Solution (a)
Let the speed of the stream X mph. Then,
Speed downstream = (10+X) mph
Speed upstream = (10-X) mph
Therefore, [36/(10-X)] – [36/(10+X)] = 90/60
X2 + 48X – 100 = 0
(X+50) (X-2) = 0
X = 2 mph

Question 5 of 5
5. Question
By selling an article at 80% of its marked price, Monisha incurs a loss of 12%. What will be the percent profit or loss made by the Monisha if she sells the article at 95% of its marked price?
Correct
Q.5) Solution (a)
Let the cost price = Rs P
Since the article is sold at 80% of its marked price
Selling price = 0.88 P
Therefore Marked price of article = 0.88/80 x100 x P=1.1P
New selling price of article = 1.045P
{(1.045x – P)/P} x 100= 4.5%
Incorrect
Q.5) Solution (a)
Let the cost price = Rs P
Since the article is sold at 80% of its marked price
Selling price = 0.88 P
Therefore Marked price of article = 0.88/80 x100 x P=1.1P
New selling price of article = 1.045P
{(1.045x – P)/P} x 100= 4.5%
