Welcome to Day 8 of TLP Phase II. Please understand that the next 12 weeks are not meant to test your knowledge. Most of you are giving your first attempt and its really important for you to self assess yourself over the fundamentals of various subjects. And even if you have appeared for CSM before, it is always desirable to brush up your basics before you go on to attempt highly analytical and thought provoking questions asked by UPSC. TLP Phase I was designed precisely for that. Moving on to Phase II, we will cover all possible issues of contemporary importance as well as touching upon various aspects of static subjects.

Please be sincere and regular in this phase of your preparation because what you build here will become the foundation of phase II of TLP.

1. Compare and contrast the federal characteristics of American, Canadian and Indian Constitutions.

2. The US Constitution prescribes for a Presidential form of government. Discuss the merits and limitations of Presidential form of government and its suitability in the Indian scenario.

3. What is Magna Carta? Discuss its role in the constitutional history of UK. (Note: Although more of a theme in World History, this question is intended to let you explore the interesting constitutional discourse in the UK. Try to link it with the way Indian judiciary interprets and applies unwritten conventions and customs in its judgements.)

4. Lateral entry into the civil services is a step in the right direction. However the rigid bureaucratic superstructure of India needs overhauling before such entry is allowed. Comment.

5. Discuss the prevailing political crisis in Maldives. Also examine its consequences for India.
