The information given below represents the relationship between different persons, study this and answer the questions that follow.
If A + B means A is the father of B
A × B means A is the sister of B
A $ B means A is the wife of B
A % B means A is the mother of B
A ÷ B means A is the son of B
What should come in place of the question mark to establish that J is the brother of T in the expression?
J ÷ P % H ? T % L
Solution (a)
A × B ⇒ A is the sister of B.
A $ B ⇒ A is the wife of B.
A % B ⇒ A is the mother of B.
A ÷ B ⇒ A is the son of B.
Since we know that P is the mother of J and H, J will be the brother of T only if there is sibling relationship between H and T, so ‘×’ should replace ‘?’ in the above expression.
J ÷ P % H × T % L can be represented in the diagram as shown below
We use the following symbols for establishing relation
+ represents male
– represents female
= represents siblings relationship and represents spouse relationship

Which among the given expressions indicate that M is the daughter of D?
Solution (b)
Using the above information, we find that option b satisfies the given condition
L + R $ D + M × T
Solution (b)
Using the above information, we find that option b satisfies the given condition
L + R $ D + M × T

Which among the following options is correct, if the expression ‘I + T % J × L ÷ K’ is definitely true?
Solution (b)
If we represent the above expression I + T % J × L ÷ K in the family tree diagram, we find that option b will be true.
Since K and T are married and T is the daughter of I, K will be son in law of I.
Solution (b)
If we represent the above expression I + T % J × L ÷ K in the family tree diagram, we find that option b will be true.
Since K and T are married and T is the daughter of I, K will be son in law of I.
Manoj took the members of his family for a picnic. His father’s mother and mother’s father including their two children were in one car. His father’s son and sister’s husband, brother’s wife were in second car. He along with his wife, wife’s sister, wife’s brother and son’s wife with a kid were in the third car. How many members of Manoj’s family were there in the picnic and how many were left behind (assuming all members of the third generation are married and Manoj had 2 grand-parents in the family)?
Solution (a)
In the first car – Manoj’s father, grandmother, mother and maternal grandfather – 4 members
In the second car – Manoj’s brother, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law – 3 members
In the third car – Manoj, Manoj’s wife, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandson – 6 members
Total = (4 + 3 + 6) = 13
Members not present – Manoj’s sister, sister-in-law’s husband, brother-in-law’s wife, and son – 4 members.
Hence, option a is the correct answer.
Total = (4 + 3 + 6) = 13
Members not present – Manoj’s sister, sister-in-law’s husband, brother-in-law’s wife, and son – 4 members.
Hence, option a is the correct answer.
A five-digit number divisible by 3 is to be formed using the numerals 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 without repetition. The total number of ways in which this can be done is
Solution (c)
For a number to be divisible by 3, the sum of its digit should be a multiple of 3. This can be done in the following two ways.
When the number are formed by using {1, 2, 3, 4, 5} or {0, 1, 2, 4, 5}
Total 5 digit numbers that can be formed by {1, 2, 3, 4, 5} without repetition = 5*4*3*2*1 = 120
Total 5 digit numbers that can be formed by {0, 1, 2, 4, 5} without repetition = 4*4*3*2*1 = 96 [Since 5 digit number cannot be formed starting with 0, it can be arranged in 4 ways]
Therefore, total such number = 120 + 96 = 216.
