GST is a comprehensive, multi-stage, destination based tax levied on every value addition which is aimed at implementing a unified tax system throughout the country – One Nation One Market One Tax
17 Indirect taxes and 23 Cesses subsumed into GST

Hey vivek, i felt this answer is good. except for the part of Challenges(I don’t think it’s asked, but if u had mentioned it last, it would have been better).
Also if u had explained the 2nd part in a broader manner that could have been good.
Good structure and conclusion
Dear Vivek,
GST is the hot topic and there is no dearth of information,
Kindly focus on answer writing aspect as well, your answer exceeds word limit by huge margin,
Information provided is very comprehensive and well organised,

GST has been touted as the next revolution in Indian economy after the LPG reforms of 1991. It is an effort to unite the entire country under a single system of indirect taxation and increase ease of doing business too.
The advantages of GST include:
1. The Integrated GST regime will discourage logistics warehousing, due to which big corporates were able to dodge CST liabilities, by just shifting their product from industry to a warehouse in the state where the sale is to be done. Now, prices of MSMEs will be more at par with such corporates.
2. Ancillarisation: Earlier, companies preferred to produce all components of a product at their factory, to avoid cascading of taxes from equipments bought from other companies. But now, due to no cascading of taxes and adequate system of CENVAT and StateVAT credits, companies will indulge in division of labour and outsourcing of jobs, leading to more job creation
3. Zero rated exports: All exports will be done at 0% extra tax, because the tax has already been paid for the exported items according to the IGST regime. This will boost the export industry and lead to more innovative practices in the industry.
4. Due to elimination of large number of indirect taxes, the complexity of tax regime will decrease and also lead to easier tax compliance for all. Also, lesser cascading taxes, leading to cheaper products for consumer.
5. Due to inherent tax compliance mechanism in the system, it will be easier to check tax evasion
6. Will lead to business expansion; more foreign investment in domestic industry and increase in GDP
GST will help in unifying the market in the country due to elimination of different indirect taxes present in different states. Earlier, while transporting goods from one state to another, the industrialist had to keep track of different state tax regimes. Also, it was leading to more concentration of industry in states which had lower taxes. The bribery at checkposts was also going unchecked.
Now due to presence of single system of Input and Output tax credits and same tax for a particular product across the whole country, the GST has succeeded in unifying the Indian market.

GST is amalgamation of large number of central and state indirect taxes into a single tax on goods and well as services, Its advantages are :-
1. Prevent cascading of taxes, thus could bring down cost of various goods and services and will benefit the consumers.
2. Simple tax structure by unifying taxation law, procedure and rates. Will lead to ease of business in the country.
3. Will improve the compliance environment in the country. Current Tax to GDP ratio of 16.6% is very low which need to be increased to 25-30%.
4. Will create a single market thus giving boost to Make in India and will promote growth and development. A study by National Council of Applied Economic Research predicts the GST will boost GDP growth by 0.7-1.9 %.
GST will help in unifying the market:-
– At central level, it subsumes Central Excise duty service tax and additional custom duties. At state level, it subsumes VAT, luxury tax ,etc. Thus, GST removes the additional taxation on interstate transport of goods.
– Will lead to closing of trade barriers at state boundaries, leading to seemless movement of goods across the country.
– Companies will no longer require to have separate VAT registration in different states. With one GST number, companies can trade all over the country.
Thus the uniformity in taxation across the country will help in unifying the market. Bringing petroleum under the ambit of GST in later stage will further consolidate this unification.

GST is the amalgamation of various central and state indirect taxes to have one India one tax. This is believed to be a game changer as it will unify the Indian market.
Certain advantages-
1) Cascading effect- which is tax on tax, GST will remove this hence bringing down the cost.
2) Lesser compliances- since only 4 slabs i.e. 5%, 12&, 18%, 28% so easy to understand and lesser paper work.
3) Higher threshold-above 20 lakh business turnover to pay thus help in expansion of business.
4) Regulating the unorganized sector since online compliance, thereby bringing accountability and regulation to industries like construction, textile etc.
5) It will make the Indian market more competitive than before and create a level playing field between large & small enterprises and ease of doing business.
6) GST will ensure boost to exports. When the cost of Production falls in the domestic market, Indian Goods and services will be more prices competitive in foreign markets.
It will help in unifying Indian market since-
1) All the goods and services will be given at same price in all the states.
2) Defined treatment for e-commerce hence no hidden agenda unifying the market.
3) Online filing- simple online procedure to file return which can be done easily across the length the breath of India.
4) It is expected that the introduction of GST will increase the tax base but lowers down the tax rates and also removes the multiple point This, will lead to higher amount of revenue to both the states and the union.
5) Removing the trade barrier since no octroi tax, it will speed up the business and transportation.
GST is the biggest fiscal reform of the decade curtailing it shortcoming like centre state consensus, min no. of slabs etc will boost India’s growth.
Dear Wicconman,
Your effort in search of unique points and presentation is worth appreciating,
in second advantage shouldn’t it be more compliance rather than less?
Second part is very well written,
Overall a good answer,
Keep writing!
lesser compliance-because–> the current tax regime has excise VAT and service tax, each of which have their own returns and compliances.
GST will unify all these, thereby reducing the number of returns and the time spent for tax compliances. There are about 11 returns under GST, out of which 4 are basic returns which apply to all taxable persons under GST. There are fears that the number of returns will increase after GST. But the main GSTR-1 will be manually populated. But GSTR-2, GSTR-3, GSTR-4 will be auto-populated.
In my opinion it could be rephrased as better compliance due to the streamlined structure with lesser compliance costs.
Very well-written answer indeed. Keep writing and reviewing!
2nd advantage can be – simpler to understand and hence facilitating compliance
You could have mentioned cooperative federalism and destination based tax bringing convergence in income outcomes ( filling up economic cleavage as mentioned in Eco survey 2016-17)
Rest is excellent
🙂
Dear Palash,
Your approach and categorization is very good,
You addressed both the aspects, also the writing style is simple and interlinking of points is impressive,

Synchronisation among states and union – cooperative federalism
You have used very good terms !!!

Dear Nadan,
I see a big improvement in your this answer from last few answers,
You addressed both the aspects well and alignment of ideas is very good, keep it up!
Dear Growlith,
Your second part can be arranged better instead of two paragraphs you could have written in points,
First part is good, kindly improve your presentation as well to fetch extra mark,
Keep writing!
Dear Sonakshi,
First part is very well written, more points could have been added in the second part,
Your presentation is good it will fetch you extra mark just provide all necessary information nobody can stop you from getting maximum marks,
Keep writing!
Your conclusion is good and points are written in a concise way.
But I think you need to include more points in advantages like you missed the most important ie removing cascading effect.
Also I am not sure of the 3rd point in the second part of the question is correct or maybe I am not able to understand what you are trying to convey.
You can read other answers to add more content
Best of luck 🙂
Dear gopro,
More points could have been added through broad categorization like some students have done, overall your answer is good but i wont give you maximum marks on relative comparison,When the topic is very common add something extra for best marks,
Overall answer is good,

Dear DH,
You have mixed both the asked issues on advantage and unifying market,

However, the second part of the question has not been exclusively, and certainly not adequately, addressed.
Overall understanding of the topic is phenomenal.
Best of luck 🙂
Bro in adv – try to be cautious abt syntax. Like 2 adv either many indirect taxes will be subsumed or it will subsume instead of subsumed. Similarly india will be positioned at better place. 5 th point tax base will improve. Keep a chk on these minor mistakes. Rest u have wriiten great and sufisim answer was just too good.:)
Bro how u managing SSC cgl and optional??? Yaha to SSC cgl and optional k beech me sandwich bann raha hai mera, naa hi optional ki preparation ho paa rahi hai aur naa hi SSC cgl.
Goods & Service Tax is a uniform, single destination based Indirect Tax. Implementation of GST will create one nation, one market in India.
Advantages of the Goods & Service Tax.
1. GST is one uniform indirect tax will be levied on consumption of Goods & Services in place of different taxes (sales, excise, vat etc).
2. GST is the destination based tax hence will generate uniform tax revenue irrespective of disparity in States.
3.Benefits to Manufacturer: Uniform price & market, ease of transport due to reduction in documentation, reduction in litigation.
4. Benefits to State & Center: Increase in revenue, tax compliance improvement. clarity on tax base and compliance.
5. Consumers: Consumers will get benefited due to lowering tax on essential goods and services. Also, transparent pricing.
6. Improved Standards and Competitiveness: Improved and market and increase of competition will force manufacturing units to improve quality of goods.
7.Better Infrastructure and Services:
Center and States may invest more of part of increase in revenue to due better tax compliance.
Although GST has been implemented and tax rate has been fixed by GST Council with consultation, there are few issues which is required to be resolved before making GST a successful reality.
1. Protest against higher tax in case of textile, sanitary pads etc.
2. Loss to states due to GST.
3. Development of GTS platform and awareness regarding processes the rafter.
But, implementation of GST from 1st July as pre-determined and subsequent efforts to make it successful by Government of India matter of appreciation.
Dear Hasta,

Overall a fair attempt,
Keep writing!
Dear Superman,
Your illustrations are long where as you could have just mentioned key points,
You are exceeding word limit as well and you missed to focus on the second part of the question equally,
Overall a fair attempt,
Keep writing to improve!
Dear PBN,
Your introduction can be improved,
first part is well written but they are repeating in the second part as well,
You failed to provide argument how GST will help in unifying market,
Keep writing and improving!
Goods and service tax is touted as the biggest reform since independence and its importance can be gauged by the way a midnight session of parliament was called for its proclamation. GST is basically an indirect tax regime which aims to harmonize the indirect tax structure in the country and create ONE NATION, ONE MARKET AND ONE TAX regime.
Advantage of GST
1. It is an advolerm tax system and there is mechanism of input tax credit which will eliminate the cascading effect of earlier tax regime and make the product cheaper for domestic consumer and competitive pricing in export market.
2.It will decrease the evasion of tax as there is input tax credit and this will boost the revenue earning of the government.
3.It will increase the tax compliance of the MSME as their is provision of lower tax for MSME and lead to the formalization of economy.
4.Since the whole GST is internet based it decreases the procedural delays and smoothens the compliance by business houses.
5.It will reduce the logistic cost and delays in interstate checkpost and further improve the efficiency of business.
GST helps in unifying indian market as
1. It subsumes multiple tax of earlier regime such as excise, vat, service tax, octroi etc into one GST.
2.It harmonizes the tax structure in the entire country and any changes in the tax structure can only be brought by GST council.
3.It creates a level playing field among the states by reducing the incentives and barrier between different states.
Thus GST will lead india to a better tax compliance, reduce procedural delays, improved economic environment , decrease regional disparities and provide a more inclusive growth.
Dear Student,
You could have mentioned more points as these seems general,When the question is on very common topic do provide some extra information, you will get average marks despite writing on all aspects, for best give something extra,

Good attempt! I agree with iasbaba’s review. Also, since disadvantages were not asked, you could have skipped them. Instead, you could have structured the points in the first part under separte subheadings to fetch more marks. Keep writing and reviewing!
Well written! You have more or less included all the points. However, a little more effort on restructuring the first part of your answer would help you in fetching more marks. Keep writing and reviewing!
Dear Jack369,

Second part is rightly addressed,Use of flow chart to provides some extra information in such common topics is very good approach,
Overall a good answer,
Keep writing!
Goods and Service tax(GST) has been introduced to replace most of the indirect taxes in the country.
Advantages of GST:
1. No cascading effect: With input tax credit facility available, common people are not burdened with double taxation. People/merchants can pay tax only for their value add on the commodity.
2. Improved Governance: Leads the simplification of procedures, taxes, easy collection of taxes etc. Corruption in administration can be controlled.
3. Tax base will increase, which contributes to GDP of the country. More taxes will help in more spending in much-needed social sectors like health, education etc.
4. Tax collection: As technology like GST network is used, the tax evasion will reduce. This increases the revenue collection of the government.
5. Ease of doing business: GST helps more inflow of foreign investments. Investors will get clarity of taxation. This helps us to have more bargaining power in trading platforms like WTO, RCEP, ASEAN, APEC etc.
Dear Trump,
This is a very good effort,
You addressed both the aspects well you could have presented advantages more effectively by categorizing them as economic, for business, for government and for consumer,
Rest information is correct,
Try to somewhat improve your presentation,
Keep writing!
Dear Jean,
Your approach is good,
Kindly write short sentences and if possible in points to present the information more effectively,You can also underline your key points,
Your categorization is good and addresses both the aspects, second part illustrations could have been shortened as well,
overall fair effort,
keep writing!
Good answer friend,
1)In first point – I think businesses still need to have different registrations in different states. You can write that differential taxation between states is eliminated by GST.
2) you can write point wise under each subheading, that will be better.
3) In unification, you can also mention octroi is eliminated, so no entry tax.
Goods and service tax is an indirect form of tax imposed on manufacture, sale and consumption of goods and services at national level. It replaced indirect taxes at both central and state level.
Advantages of GST over previous form of indirect taxes:
• It is very transparent and easy to understand.
• It is a Single tax, so it becomes easy to focus on the tax rates and it’s impact. The laffer curve
can be more accurately used to determine optimum tax rate.
• It is a destination based tax unlike the previous taxation scheme which is origin based.
• The final consumer will bear only the GST charged by the last dealer in the supply chain.
Role of GST in unifying the market:
Before GST implementation, there were various indirect taxes with different rates and catering to different segments. For eg excise duty was imposed on factory produced goods, when this good was being sold in state of origin with various value adds it was subjected to VAT(Value added tax). GST brings in a clarity in the tax structure.
This clarity is result of subsuming of various taxes under one umbrella. Now there can be a split in tax burden between various sectors of economy. GST will also improve interstate trade significantly, as it removes the complexity of different CST and VAT rates.
India now will be seen as a common unified market to any foreigner trying to invest in business or any budding entrepreneur trying to make use of startup India.
gst is one of the biggest fiscal reform since independence.all businesses,be it small or big, will be affected by it.its benefits are…
1.it wud remove cascading effect of taxes
2.it wud enhance online simpler procedure of taxes.
3.lesser compliances
4.degined treatment of e-commerce
5.it will help regulate unorganised sector
Just as sardar vallabhai patel subsumed different states under one unified india similarly Gst will subsume various indirect taxes under one net.common slabs of 5,12,18,28 across the nation will remove variius taxes and will remove various barriers and enhance trade across india under one single market…
Thanks Veerbhan for letting me know about the benefits of GST 🙂
you should have defined the GOOD AND SIMPLE TAX ( As I can assume that you have listened to the PM’s midnight hour speech ) 😉
Disadvantages or challenges if any ?
Do write about How it has made One Nation One tax One market 🙂
Thanks for the vallabh bhai patel wala point 😉
Hi there 🙂 There r 3 things to focus:
1. 4th advantage that it increases revenue of the consuming state is wrong as the underlying aim was to maintain stats quo in tax revenue through RNR.
2. 3rd point in unification is not relevant for the market. It doesnt look as if it was written keeping in mind the unification of market. If it is so, plz restructure it
3. Dont mention “despite keeping petrol….” bcoz question has nowhere asked to critically analyse or show a critical aspect. Its jst about positives. Better keep it to that. Ending on that wavering tone sort of pinches in the eye.
Comments :
GST is a comprehensive, multi-stage, destination based tax levied on every value addition which is aimed at implementing a unified tax system throughout the country – One Nation One Market One Tax
17 Indirect taxes and 23 Cesses subsumed into GST
Advantages
1. For Business/Industry
– Easier tax system: IT interface as easy as operating a facebook account, No direct interaction with tax officials==>Saves time, money and less corruption
– Uniformity in tax structure throughout the country
– Removal of cascading and hidden costs
– Allows free flow of goods – Reduced delay in checkpoints
2. For Central/State Governments
– Easier and more accountable tax administration
– Better control on leakages ==> Higher tax compliance ==>Higher revenue
3. For Consumers
– Simple and transparent tax regime
– Relief in overall tax burden
4. Economic Impacts
– World Bank: Indian economy to grow by 7.2 % in FY 2018
– Ease of going business ==> Higher investments
– Higher tax compliance ==> Less fiscal deficit
5. On Federalism
– Big leap of cooperative federalism <== Work culture of consensus in GST Council
Challenges
1. Transition Problems: Due to lack of awareness and clarity, IT hiccups etc. Poor transmission of GST benefits, exploitation of consumers in the name of GST etc.
2. Fears of states: Protests in Gujarat and J&K stating their financial powers are taken away. Law and order problem. Plus could a uniform rate meet the aspirations of diverse interests and aspirations in different parts of the country?
3. Fears of inflationary impact
4. Handling unregistered manufacturers and vendors
GST on unifying market in the country
1. Single tax profile throughout the country
2. Centralized authority for tax governance: No need of filing of multiple tax returns
3. Stable tax policy highlighting national interest
4. Less interstate trade disruptions
Thus, GST is a huge boost for Indian economy, which is rattling with the problems of low tax compliance and poor state of private investments. The worries of people and industry along with transitional hiccups can be addressed through effective debates, discussions and appreciation. In long run, GST will have a monumental role in enhancing competitiveness of the economy as well as fostering cooperative federalism.

Thank u fr review buddy, I already crossed world limit way too much. Had to develop 🙂
Dear Vivek,

Kindly focus on answer writing aspect as well, your answer exceeds word limit by huge margin,
Information provided is very comprehensive and well organised,
No need to mention challenges as it was not asked,

GST has been touted as the next revolution in Indian economy after the LPG reforms of 1991. It is an effort to unite the entire country under a single system of indirect taxation and increase ease of doing business too.
The advantages of GST include:
1. The Integrated GST regime will discourage logistics warehousing, due to which big corporates were able to dodge CST liabilities, by just shifting their product from industry to a warehouse in the state where the sale is to be done. Now, prices of MSMEs will be more at par with such corporates.

Dear Students,
You mentioned very general points in advantaged, kindly write specific points,
Kindly prioritize your points GDP growth should not come at first,
Kindly upload a proper image its more bluish than normal,
Keep writing!

Thank you so much 🙂 Definitely , I couldn’t have improved without your valuable inputs everyday. Thank you again 🙂
Thanks a lot babji, ???
lesser compliance-because–> the current tax regime has excise VAT and service tax, each of which have their own returns and compliances.
Sir correct me if I am wrong.
Thnx Babaji???
God Bless n Bliss You:)???
In my opinion it could be rephrased as better compliance due to the streamlined structure with lesser compliance costs.
Very well-written answer indeed. Keep writing and reviewing!
It can be a point of debate but it will be easy to understand if you use better compliance than lesser.
2nd advantage can be – simpler to understand and hence facilitating compliance
You could have mentioned cooperative federalism and destination based tax bringing convergence in income outcomes ( filling up economic cleavage as mentioned in Eco survey 2016-17)
Rest is excellent
🙂
i think he wanted to write lesser complications…compliance bn gya dhoke se
sahi pakde hain peeku ji !!!

But I think you need to include more points in advantages like you missed the most important ie removing cascading effect.
Also I am not sure of the 3rd point in the second part of the question is correct or maybe I am not able to understand what you are trying to convey.
You can read other answers to add more content
Best of luck 🙂
Thanks for the review.
I will certainly try to improve the overall content 🙂
Dear gopro,
More points could have been added through broad categorization like some students have done, overall your answer is good but i wont give you maximum marks on relative comparison,When the topic is very common add something extra for best marks,
Overall answer is good,
Keep writing!
Thank you Iasbaba.
Will try to improve further 🙂

Hi Tavishi
You have answered the first part in exquisite detail. (Have a look at the word limit and try not to exceed the word limit).
However, the second part of the question has not been exclusively, and certainly not adequately, addressed.
Overall understanding of the topic is phenomenal.
Best of luck 🙂
Thanks a lot for reviewing . I need to work on the word limit . Also second par could be better ..

Although GST has been implemented and tax rate has been fixed by GST Council with consultation, there are few issues which is required to be resolved before making GST a successful reality.
1. Protest against higher tax in case of textile, sanitary pads etc.
2. Loss to states due to GST.
3. Development of GTS platform and awareness regarding processes the rafter.
But, implementation of GST from 1st July as pre-determined and subsequent efforts to make it successful by Government of India matter of appreciation.

Dear Nidhi,

Dear Jean,
Your approach is good,
Kindly write short sentences and if possible in points to present the information more effectively,You can also underline your key points,
Your categorization is good and addresses both the aspects, second part illustrations could have been shortened as well,
overall fair effort,
keep writing!
Thanks for guidance sir/man .I will work on shortcomings 🙂
Good answer friend,
1)In first point – I think businesses still need to have different registrations in different states. You can write that differential taxation between states is eliminated by GST.
2) you can write point wise under each subheading, that will be better.
3) In unification, you can also mention octroi is eliminated, so no entry tax.
Actually i read it in an article. But still i cross check it 🙂
thanks for suggestions. 🙂
you can see that point here-

Thank you buddy

well written..
Thanks man ?

Do review
Do review sir.
Thanksss

Rest is cool! KWAR. Also plzz review mine 🙂
thanks for pointing that out
